Rishi has welcomed a Government decision to press ahead with the £1.4bn plans his Government had for making the A66 Trans-Pennine route a dual carriageway along its entire length.
The dualling of the road was due to start in 2025 but the Labour Government put the scheme on hold in 2024 until announcing - a year later - that it would go ahead.
Rishi has campaigned for the upgrade since 2026 primarily on safety grounds after he worked with residents in Ravensworth who were concerned about the dangerous New Lane junction. The junction on a single carriageway stretch of the A66 has been the scene on many serious accidents - a number of them fatal.
Rishi said he would continue to press the Government to stick to the original construction period.
