The Business and Economics students toured the Palace of Westminster before meeting the Richmond and Northallerton MP for an extended question-and-answer session, where they discussed a range of issues including the economy, climate change, leadership and the changing political landscape in Britain.
Pupils also asked Rishi about his experiences serving as both Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer, with discussion focusing on decision-making in government and the pressures of holding high office during major national and international events.
The visit gave students the opportunity to engage with Parliament and gain a greater understanding of how politics and policymaking work in practice, linking to their studies in Business and Economics.
Rishi said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome pupils from Richmond School and Sixth Form College to Parliament. They asked thoughtful and well-informed questions on a wide range of topics and were a credit to their school”
“It’s always encouraging to see young people taking such a strong interest in politics, economics and public service.”
