Rishi has expressed his admiration for an innovative North Yorkshire company’s efforts to boost the UK’s housing options.
He visited Moduloft, a 50-employee business at Brompton on Swale, which has developed a modular building system
The company produces bespoke loft conversions and bungalow rooftop extensions with a patented build system – and has customers all over the UK.
Moduloft is a precision-engineered, factory-built system tailored to meet a client’s specific requirements.
The company believes the system has potential to be used to add building capacity to social housing, offices or any location where it is not possible to extend a building’s footprint.
The company has added complete floors to apartment buildings in London where it is often the only option for creating additional space.
The structures are built in the factory at Brompton on Swale and then transported by low-loader to the location where they are craned into place. They come fully fitted with walls, floors, wiring, plumbing and fitted kitchens and bathrooms, if required.
Christian Evans, managing director of The Modugroup Ltd, is leading the business through a period of strategic growth, building on its modular expertise to deliver projects across multiple sectors nationwide, including work in the Channel Islands.
Under his leadership, the company is focused on scaling up its manufacturing capacity and expanding into new areas – including airspace developments in major UK cities and modular solutions for the residential, commercial, education, and healthcare sectors.
Rishi toured the factory with Mr Evans and the company’s senior managers, meeting staff and the company’s apprentices. He saw work in progress on a complete new floor destined for a home in Jersey.
He said: “This is a hugely impressive operation. They have created a truly innovative concept which has enormous potential to create more homes without eating up more greenfield land.
“I was also delighted to see they have a successful apprenticeship programme in place to develop the skills they need to continue growing in North Yorkshire.”
Mr Evans said: “Mr Sunak’s visit came at a pivotal moment in our journey. As we scale our operations and expand into new markets, we remain proudly rooted in North Yorkshire - demonstrating that regional manufacturing can play a vital role in addressing housing needs and delivering essential infrastructure.
“At the heart of our growth strategy is a commitment to creating skilled jobs, investing in local talent, and driving innovation in volumetric modular construction.”
