A rapidly-expanding steel fabrication business has been praised by Rishi for its recent growth.

Hambleton Steel, which employs more than 70 people at its factory in Brompton on Swale, has doubled its turnover in a year and taken on more staff.

It is also investing up to £2m in new plant, taking advantage of the Government’s capital allowances scheme.

The investment will improve efficiency and productivity at the business which designs, fabricates and installs steel buildings across the UK.

Some of the major contracts the company has worked on include the multi-storey car park at the new Darlington Gateway development at the railway station and the New Covent Garden Market in London.

During a visit to the business, Rishi saw the various stages of the fabrication process and spoke to staff.

Hambleton Steel Managing Director Matt Gibson said: “It has been a great opportunity for us and our team to meet with the Prime Minister. We are a great success story in the region and following a chance meeting with the PM before Christmas, I invited Mr Sunak to come and see us, which he said he would. We were thrilled to see that he kept his promise.”

Rishi said: “It’s great to see a company enjoying strong growth and using the Government’s investment incentives to fuel that business expansion.

“It is also very satisfying to see a local company benefiting from the major investment in Darlington railway station.”

Rishi said he was also pleased to see the company was working to develop an exciting apprenticeship programme.

Hambleton Steel was founded in 1995, in Brompton, Northallerton, and established its first fabrication facility in Brompton on Swale in 2001. It acquired its current site in 2017.

After becoming part of the Embrace Steel Group in 2022, it doubled its turnover from £13m to £26m.
