Rishi has visited a café which supports the UK’s Armed Forces.
He called into the new NAAFI Café at Catterick Garrison to meet staff and customers, many of them Veterans.
The café, in the Princes Gate development, is run by the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI). When it opened in the Spring it was the organisation’s first town centre cafe in the UK.
The NAAFI is a not-for-profit organisation providing catering, retail and leisure facilities for the UK’s Armed Forces. Trading surpluses are invested in Forces welfare projects.
Rishi said: “It’s a great new venue for the whole Garrison community and every cup of famous NAAFI tea drunk here helps give something back to those who serve in our Armed Forces in the UK and around the world.”
The NAAFI was established more than 100 years ago to serve Britain’s Service community wherever it was in action. It is now re-establishing its name on UK High Streets, opening its doors for the first time beyond the Forces.
The Catterick café serves a range of drinks and snacks, including sandwiches, wraps and cakes.
The NAAFI’s UK Operations manager Richard Saywell said: “Our visit from the Prime Minister had a great impact on the customers and staff. It was an honour to welcome him to our Catterick café – a new development for our organisation.”
