Rishi welcomed Stokesley School students into No 10 Downing Street to talk politics.

The 14 sixth-form students were invited into the famous Cabinet Room for a quick-fire Q&A.

They quizzed the Prime Minister and their constituency MP on funding the NHS, public sector pay, climate change and balancing the demands of leading the country and being their local MP.

Rishi said the A-level politics students had some probing questions.

The MP for Richmond (Yorks) added: “They were a fantastic group of young people who raised important issues of the day with me. I really enjoyed meeting them, to give them an idea of what a typical day was like in No 10 and some of the history of the Cabinet Room.”

The students had travelled down the night before their visit to Downing Street and had a full day in Westminster with a tour of the Houses of Parliament and time in Whitehall seeing the principal Government departments.

Chris Jones, head of humanities at Stokesley School and Sixth Form College, said the visit to Downing Street had been the chance of a lifetime for both students and accompanying staff.

“We only found out the night before that Rishi could see us and it was a wonderful opportunity to sit in such a historic room and talk to him face-to-face,” he said. “It’s something we will not forget.”

“The whole day in the heart of government was a great experience for the students and invaluable for their studies.”

“We are particularly grateful to Rishi and his team that the visit to No 10 could be arranged.”
