Rishi Sunak gets his flu jab at Boots Richmond

Rishi has urged all those eligible to get their free winter flu vaccination.

During a visit to Richmond, he called at Boots Pharmacy in the Market Place to have and pay for his booked vaccination.

This year the flu vaccination is free to those aged 50 and over, and those in at-risk groups.

Rishi said: “Flu and COVID-19 are both circulating and we are currently seeing higher rates of flu at this time of year than usual.

“It is important those eligible have their flu jab as soon as they can. Vaccines are our best defence. I would urge all those eligible to get their jab, either through their GP or, as I did, through a local pharmacy.”

Rishi’s vaccination was administered by Boot pharmacist David Walker.

Mr Walker said: “We have had great take-up this year - in North Yorkshire alone this flu season Boots pharmacies have given more than 22,000 vaccinations – but we are keen to see those who may so far have missed out to come forward.”

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to adults who:

  • are 50 and over (including those who will be 50 by 31 March 2023)
  • have a serious long-term health condition
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get a severe infection (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant, or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
  • are a frontline health or social care worker

This year’s flu vaccination programme is running alongside the Covid-19 seasonal autumn booster vaccination campaign.
