help for heroes

Help for Heroes held their first Winter Ball in support of Phoenix House Recovery Centre this weekend, at Tennants Garden Rooms in Leyburn. My wife and I had a great evening out with friends, enjoying the entertainment and extremely happy to support a great cause.

The evening’s auction raised over £70,000 for the charity! A key prize was a work of art by local and world renown artist Mackenzie Thorpe. He had been commissioned by the Northern Echo to produce a piece of cover art for their Remembrance Edition that was sold for £13,000. A limited number of more affordable prints will be available from the gallery.

I am sure most of you will be aware of the wonderful work Help for Heroes do and I was pleased to learn more about it from the co-founder Bryn Parry. Phoenix House Recovery Centre at Catterick Garrison plays a very important role in helping our soldiers and I am looking forward to visiting it and supporting their work in the future.
