Rishi joined young people and volunteers to celebrate a year of achievement, service and personal growth at the North Hambleton Scouts Awards.
Rishi attended the event at East Harlsey Village Hall, where 30 young people, families and Scout leaders gathered for the first district awards celebration since 2019.
The afternoon recognised the progress, skills and community contribution of local Scouts over the past 12 months.
The North Hambleton Scouts Awards brought together members from across the district, with District Lead Volunteer Mark Turner, County Lead Volunteer Max Butler and other local leaders in attendance, marking an important moment in celebrating the energy and dedication of young people and volunteers alike.
Before the ceremony began, Mr Sunak met award winners and their families, alongside the Lord-Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Jo Ropner, who is also Honorary County President of North Yorkshire Scouts.
The event then brought together presentations, interviews and performances highlighting the range of opportunities Scouting offers, from local community action to international experiences.
Top awards were presented during the day, recognising commitment, skill development, leadership and service. These included: Chief Scouts' Bronze Awards, Chief Scouts' Silver Awards and Duke of Edinburgh's award.
The awards also showcased the strong links between Scouts and other local groups, including the Wombles of Hambleton, who work with young people on community projects that contribute towards badges while supporting the local area.
Following the event, Rishi said:
“It was a real privilege to be part of such a positive and uplifting afternoon. The confidence, enthusiasm and community spirit shown by these young people was outstanding, and it’s clear how much Scouting helps them grow in character. Events like this are a real credit to the leaders, volunteers and families who make it all possible.”
Mark Turner, District Lead Volunteer for North Hambleton Scouts, said:
“These young people have shown determination and a willingness to challenge themselves. Seeing these awards presented today is a testament not only to their hard work, but to our volunteers and everyone who has supported them on their journeys. We’re incredibly proud of every single recipient and those who supported them.”
Local Scout leaders also highlighted the role of Scouting in developing resilience, leadership and a sense of belonging, as well as the importance of partnerships with community groups across Hambleton that give young people practical ways to make a difference close to home.
North Hambleton District Scouts continues to grow, offering opportunities for young people and adult volunteers across the area extending from Bedale to Stokesley and Great Ayton to Masham, reflecting a thriving and expanding Scouting community.
