Richmond MP Rishi Sunak visited an outstanding nursery to see how the Government's 30 hours free childcare programme was working.
Mr Sunak was shown round Little Learners Nursery Centre at Scorton, near Richmond, to see the flagship Government policy in action.
Since September, working parents of 3-4 year olds have been able to apply for up 30 hours a week of free childcare.
At Little Learners, Mr Sunak was given a tour of the extensive facilities by nursery manager Sarah Laws and company director Lesley Johnson. The nursery was recently judged Outstanding following its inspection by Ofsted.
Currently the nursery looks after 65 children aged from six weeks to four years old. They are looked after in five different rooms/groups. The nursery also has large indoor and outdoor play areas, including soft play.
Security is guaranteed by a entry system which uses face recognition technology.
Mr Sunak heard that the nursery had more children in its care and some parents had extended their working hours as a result of the policy which extended free childcare for three- to four-year-olds from 15 hours to 30 hours.
Mrs Laws and Mrs Johnson also gave Mr Sunak feedback on how administration of the scheme could be improved. Mr Sunak said he would pass their comments to the appropriate Government Ministers.
He said: "I was so impressed by what I saw at Little Learners. The children were clearly having an enjoyable and stimulating time there.
"It was also good to see the Government's free childcare policy in action, a policy that can save working families up to £5,000 from their annual childcare bills."
