I outlined five practical measures which could help Britain's hard-pressed dairy farmers weather the durrent downturn in milk prices.

The measures would help them to overcome the cyclical nature of dairy prices and were:

1 A fair deal from retailers overseen by a robust Groceries Code Adjudicator

2, Turn more UK milk into dairy products like cheese and yoghurt - of which we still import a great deal.

3, more dairy producer organisations. Farmers needed to band together to negotiate a better sale price for their milk.

4, Create a working futures market to aid price stability.

5, Government should buy British - including councils, schools, the Armed Forces etc
