Dales villagers “got on their bikes” to celebrate the Tour de Yorkshire passing through their community.

A competition for the best decorated cut-out bike in Bellerby, near Leyburn, attracted 20 entries from young and old.

On the eve of the race’s arrival Richmond MP Rishi Sunak visited the village to judge the bikes which were set out on the green.

He said: “There were some very good entries which really represented the spirit of the Tour and Yorkshire’s pride in hosting it. It was very challenging to decide on the winners.”

The winners were: 1 William Raw, aged 5; 2 Jessica Asher, 6; 3 Alice Stanley.

Organiser Lynn Ward said: “We normally have a village event with fancy dress but this year we changed it to a Best Dressed Bike competition. Rishi did a sterling job for us in picking out the best ones.”
