Rishi helped children with preparations to celebrate their school’s special anniversary.
The Richmond (Yorks) MP visited Great Smeaton Academy Primary School which is 50 years old this academic year.
The school near Northallerton is planning a celebration event early in 2024. Mr Sunak joined the children’s discussion about what form the celebration might take.
He also spoke to them about his work in Westminster, the Houses of Parliament and answered their questions about being a local MP and Prime Minister
He said: “The children were very excited about the school’s birthday and it was very enjoyable joining their debate about how they are going to mark it. It promises to be a great day for the school, staff, parents and past and present pupils.
“They were also very interested in my work and had some great questions about Westminster and life as a politician.”
Interim headteacher Alison Cafferty said Mr Sunak’s visit had been a big boost for the school.
She added: “We are a small school in a small village but we are always encouraging our pupils to be outward-looking and to aspire to achieve great things. To have our local MP and Prime Minister here to talk about his work and about Westminster was a big thing for them and will help to expand their horizons about their own futures.”
