Rishi has praised the achievements of pupils and staff at an improving Richmond primary school.
He visited Trinity Academy, a Church of England school, for its Family Celebration Worship to help present awards to pupils.
The event was attended by the whole school, staff, governors and parents.
The MP presented individual awards and also spent time with the school’s special needs and early years pupils.
Headteacher Simon Robson said the school was delighted to welcome Rishi to what was a special event in the school calendar.
The school set out to be inclusive and the event was a celebration of the school supporting the pupils to find their own unique qualities.
He added that the school was growing with a new vision which recognised the special qualities and contributions of all.
A most recent inspection had been very encouraging and reading results at Key Stage 2 and in phonics were very good.
During the awards, which recognised good attendance, excellence in curriculum subjects and demonstrating commitment to the school’s values of respect, perseverance and trust, pupils sang the school hymn they wrote themselves, with Mr Robson’s help, and took part in a history quiz.
Rishi said: “I was most impressed by the pupils, their record of achievement and particularly their first-rate history knowledge in the quiz.
“It was clear what a supportive learning environment the school staff are providing for all the pupils and that is reflected in the results the school is achieving.
Mr Robson said Rishi’s visit had been a real boost for everyone associated with the school. He added: “It was fantastic to have Rishi to visit us and celebrate the excellent progress that is being made at Trinity Academy Richmond alongside our wonderful children and their families.”
