Rishi Sunak at Newton Le Willows Village Hall

Rishi visited Newton-le-Willows Village Hall to meet with community groups and learn about their activities.

The village is home to several groups, including a cricket club, a wine society, a climate change club, craft club, and a newly formed Quoits club.

Rishi had the opportunity to see the newly installed Quoits pitches at the Village Hall, which have quickly become a popular feature for villagers.

Susan Perkins, chair of the Village Hall Trustees explained how the Village Hall has become a real hub of activity and brings together villagers with a range of interests.

Both the Village Hall and the Bar are run by volunteers, who generously give their time to ensure that these spaces remain vibrant and accessible to everyone in the community.

Anyone who is interested in joining either team is encouraged to get in touch via the Village Hall website.

Members of the local parish council, including Rob Pulham, were in attendance to discuss the ongoing efforts to improve village life. Mr Sunak was also updated on the restoration of the village hall, which has undergone roofing repairs, and plans to replace the hall’s wooden doors.

Reflecting on his visit, Rishi praised the community: "It’s amazing to see how deeply engaged the villagers of Newton-le-Willows are in nurturing their community”.

“From the diversity of clubs and activities to the ongoing efforts to improve local spaces, it’s clear that this village is thriving because of its passionate residents. This is what strong, connected communities look like.”

Susan Perkins: “We had a great time having Rishi at our Village Hall, we really wanted to show Rishi how important our Village Hall and Bar are to the local community. Everyone who attended was appreciative that he took the time to talk to everyone and what an entertaining afternoon they had.”
