Rishi visited two Dales agricultural shows over the bank holiday weekend.

At Leyburn on Saturday, Rishi and his family toured the Wensleydale showfield with joint presidents Joyce and James Sunter, visiting the livestock lines, horticulture/handicrafts tent, trade stands and main ring.

In the sheep section, Rishi was present for the judging of the Wensleydale Longwool classes and was asked by judge Joan Ford to present the prize for champion Wensleydale to Ernie Sherwin of Nosterfield.

With his wife and two daughters, Rishi was captivated by the main ring attraction of Ben Atkinson and his Action Horse team staging a daring display of stunt riding.

Later he congratulated members of Leyburn Band, who were presented with a commemorative salver by Mr Sunter on behalf of the show committee, thanking the band for their contributions to the show going back many years.

Mrs Sunter said the show had been a huge success.

“And it was very special to welcome back Mr Sunak and his family to the show.”

Rishi said: “Wensleydale Show is always a great day out thanks to the impeccable organisation of the show committee and their many helpers. It was a privilege to be present to help mark the contribution of Leyburn Band to the atmosphere of showday for more than 100 years.”

On bank holiday Monday, Rishi was at Reeth Show, joining the parade of show officials, judges and Reeth Band from the green down to the showfield.

He toured the showfield with show chairman Tony Sunter, talking to exhibitors in the sheep and cattle lines, visiting the trade stands, vintage vehicles and handicrafts tent.

He said: "It was a great day, with tremendous entrants in the livestock classes, some superb exhibits in the handicrafts and horticulture sections. The whole event was organised beautifully - a great Dales event."
